LOOKING AFTER YOUR KITHARA

Your Kithara guitar will last a lifetime, full of musical enjoyment. Guitars are sensitive to the environment, so it is important to make sure the guitar is periodically checked out, usually whenever the seasons change as this is when humidity and weather changes occur and a musical instrument is most sensitive to these conditions.

CLEANING

To prolong the life of the finish of your Kithara, we recommend wiping down the entire instrument, including the strings, with a soft, clean, dry cloth after each use. We condition our fingerboards and raw necks with Monty’s Montypresso Wax and Instrument Food which preserves the long life and smooth feel of the fingerboard. We recommend you to apply a small amount once a year, as the wax is incredibly long lasting.

STRINGING

Dirty or worn strings will cause loss of sustain and treble frequencies and may result in faulty intonation and tuning instability. Fresh strings will not only improve the overall tone of your guitar but will also make it more comfortable and enjoyable to play. We string all standard tuned guitars with D’Addario NYXL 10-46, and all Baritone tuned B standard guitars with Stringjoy Signature 17-64 gauge.

HUMIDITY

Humidity or lack thereof can be any musical instruments biggest enemy. It is important to regulate as best you can the relative humidity that surrounds the instrument. 45%-55% relative humidity is optimal. Your instrument should never be exposed to direct sunlight or left in a hot car. Dryness occurs in the winter months, the air holds less moisture and additional factors such as central heating will dry the air even further, lowering relative humidity and causing the wood to shrink. If an instrument becomes too dry, then the guitar will experience neck shrinkage and the frets will begin to feel sharp along the neck. There are products available to help regulate humidity, and are very easy to use. Purchasing a guitar humidifier will help increase your guitar’s humidity content whilst in its case. Note that is it very important to carefully adhere to the manufacturer’s instructions to avoid any possible water damage. Please don’t hesitate to ask us (or your dealer) for advice. Problems such as these are beyond our control during production and are not considered for warranty repairs.
